Go Local, Grow Local: Building Indie Alternatives to Amazon
April 3rd, 2012 by LesleyYet again I have been remiss in updating the Little Independent blog. I have tons of excuses but mainly, the bike business is in full swing and, fortunately, my store, Roscoe Village Bikes has been very busy. I also did a bit of traveling recently. I presented on a panel at the American Independent Business Alliance Go Local, Grow Local conference in Louisville, KY. The panel was called “Building Indie Alternatives to Amazon et al.” I had a great time meeting leaders from independent business alliance groups across the countries and the people of Louisville were incredibly gracious hosts. I can’t wait to visit again.
We’re working to grow and improve Little Independent which launched in June, 2011 so I was very grateful to have the opportunity to present at the conference. I wanted highlight what makes Little Independent different from other online marketplaces such as e-bay, Amazon, Craigslist or etsy.com. My presentation covered:
What is Little Independent > How to Utilize Little Independent > What Makes Little Independent Different > Why Consider Little Independent
Here are a few images from my slides. They’re sort of tiny but you can click on them to see them a little more clearly.
My good friend Sarah helped answer questions at our exhibitor table and passed out presentation handouts. She’s a teacher on Spring Break and offered to help. I am so grateful for her support. Little Independent doesn’t have a big staff or budget so I turn to friends like Sarah. If you’d like to help out, please visit our Get Involved page. The picture above is of Sarah in her “You’ve got questions? I’ve got answers” pose.
If you have questions about Little Independent, please check out our FAQ page or drop me a note through the “Contact Us” on the site. Thanks so much for reading and for your support of mom & pop shops.
